Tom Lyons is a strong defensive player for the Wild. He is a versatile player, playing offense when he is asked. Not only does Lyons play both offense and defense, but he plays both extremely well.
He is his own toughest critic, coming to the bench apologizing for making one mistake on a near perfect shift. Hockey is a game where it is near impossible to play even one perfect shift in your entire career. Lyons is always looking to improve and is a great listener. When coaches give him advice, they know they will see the change made the very next shift.
Every game and practice is ended with a handshake, a smile, and a 'thank you' for each of the coaches. His ability to adapt to any situation on the ice is impressive. He is always positive with his teammates and keeps the game in perspective. He has a great first pass on the breakout and has proved to have a knack for shooting the puck on net from the blue line.
The coaches are impressed with how much Lyons has improved so far this season. The coaches hope to improve his strength and body checking this season.
