The Hanover Wild (12-4-0, 10-1-0 NHAHA) defeated the CSB Hawks (0-1-0) in a barn burner at Cairns Arena 9-3.
The Wild dominated much of the play, though Jackson Kapuscinski made several key saves early to keep the Wild ahead. On two different occasions Kapuscinski made unbelievable saves after a Hawk attacker recieved a centering pass in front of the net and was all alone.
The Wild started off the scoring with a shorthanded goal from Ben Ives on a wrist shot from the blue line that beat the goaltender five hole. Ives capitalized on his next shift, scoring upstairs after recieving a feed from Jake Reznek who played another stellar game.
The Wild carried the 2-0 lead into the 2nd period where Will Fichman picked up where the Wild left off, blasting home a shot from the point with an assist going to Gregor Vogel. Will Brannen, being the great teammate he is, told the referee he did not tip the puck in, crediting Fichman with the goal. "Stuff like that brings a team together." Dodds said after the game. "I'm so proud of Will for being so selfless on a play that the whole rink thought he tipped in. That's something you don't see from many players at any level of the game."
Archer Judd scored on the powerplay to give the Wild a 4-0 lead midway through the 2nd period. Brannen got what he deserved as he put home a rebound after great movement from Vogel, Nathan St. Pierre, Teddy Lyons, and Fichman on the powerplay. Vogel gave the Wild a 6-0 lead on a gorgeous one-timer after recieving a feed from Reznek, Quinn Murnaghan recieved an assist on the play as well.
The Hawks scored two unanswered goals sending the game into the 3rd period at 6-2. The Hawks struck once more, pulling within three before the Wild took the game over once more. Fichman continued his strong play, earning himself another point on a shot that was tipped by St. Pierre in front--Brannen earned an assist on the play as well.
Judd scored his second of the night after recieving a pass from linemates Reznek and Ives. Fichman capped off his four-point night with a goal on a cannon from the top of the circle with an assist going to Ives.
The Wild look to have a strong week of practice before facing off against the Henniker Huskies (5-3-1 NHAHA).
