The Hanover Wild (5-2-0, 4-1-0 NHAHA) shutout the Cardigan Cougars (0-1-0) 5-0 at Turner Arena.
The Wild rallied behind Ben Ives who was injured in the opening minutes of the game. Ives' linemates Archer Judd and Jake Reznek combined for a goal after Judd beat the Cougar goaltender after a fantastic feed from Reznek. Nathan St. Pierre listened to Coach Dodds and used his speed to beat the defensemen wide and buried home a shot to give the Wild a 2-0 lead headed into the 2nd period.
Sam Selig, Brian Daley, and Pratt Stetson joined the white team for the game, adding much appreciated depth to the lineup.
The 2nd period saw Will Fichman extend his goal scoring streak to two games as he wristed home a shot from the point after a great feed and screen from Carter Auch. Fichman now has three goals in two games and is starting to feel it offensively. Great defensive play by Quinn Murnaghan and Selig helped the Wild keep the Cougars off the board. Daley, Gregor Vogel, and Will Brannen created many scoring chances throughout the game, but were unable to beat the Cougar goaltender.
Stetson showed off his hand-eye coordination on a beautiful goal knocked out of mid-air on a rebound from a Judd shot. Jackson Kapuscinski held off a Cougar push late in the 3rd period, earning his third shutout of the season. Teddy Lyons put the icing on the cake for the Wild with 7 seconds left, firing home a wrist shot to send the Wild home with a 5-0 victory.
The Wild look ahead to what should be a great game against the NE Edge (6-0-0 NHAHA) tomorrow at Skate 3.
